** Update: 22nd March – Voting has now ended. Well done to entry number 3, you’ve won lunch in Paris! A big thank you to everybody who voted. **

We had a fantastic response to our Mother’s Day competition so thank you to all that entered. With 800 entires to choose from, picking 12 winners was a tricky task but we’ve finally narrowed it down to our favourites.

As well as getting their quote or poem published in a book that’ll go on sale at GettingPersonal.co.uk, the lucky 12 have won a Pamper Experience Day for Two as well as a selection of personalised gifts.

Now the hard part is down to you. We need you to choose the overall winning entry that will win the fantastic prize of Lunch in Paris for Two.

So have a good read of all 12 entries below and vote for your favourite. Is there one that makes you laugh out loud? Or perhaps there’s one that really touches your heart? We think they’re all fantastic but there can only be one overall winner.

You can vote by Facebook here.

Entry 1:

She listens when I need her
And she taught me how to bake,
She fills my car with petrol
She gives but never takes.

Her laugh is quite infectious
And her temper vivid too
She’s a walking contradiction
But a constant when i’m blue.

She has a strange connection
With me when I’m not there,
She phones just when i’m thinking
That I have something to share.

Its very reassuring
To know that she loves me
The best friend that I ever had
Was given to me for free.

Entry 2:

My Mum is seventy-three year’s old,
But so fit and active, she can still touch her toes!
Grey haired and wrinkled, an industrious cook,
But she can still carry-off a glamorous look.

Loves a good party, full of fun and good cheer,
But after 50 years married, was sadly widowed last year.
Despite the loneliness, she didn’t give-in to depression,
But instead taught us all a valuable lesson.

You get just one life – it’s happy and it’s sad,
But you have to keep going for your dear old Dad.
He’d never have wanted us to stop living,
But instead keep-on laughing, loving and giving.

Family and friends are the most precious people you’ll know,
But we’re guilty of not letting our love for them show.
Mum, you’re courageous, optimistic, a star,
But I’m guilty of not telling you how precious you are.

You’re a wonderful Mother on who we depend, But much more than that, you’re my most precious friend.

Entry 3:

Mum your love is everything,
you hold a heart of gold,
I treasure and respect you,
Though you’re very seldom told.

You brought me into this world,
and filled my heart with love,
To you I was the greatest gift
A gift from God above

You cared for me as a baby
and guided me through my youth
You kissed away my aches and pains
and saved my 1st loose tooth

You prepared me for my adult life
and set me on my way
But I know if I have a problem
You’re just a call away

To be the perfect mother
You fit the role just fine
Noone could do it better mum
and I’m so glad you’re mine.

Entry 4:

I love my mum because she cares,
She’s non judgemental, always there,
If I should cry, she’d dry my tears,
Help me cope with all my fears

I love my mum for what she does,
And for her unconditional love,
She always knows just what to say,
To send me happy on my way

I love my mum, she’s my best friend,
It’s a love that will never, ever end
Friends may come and friends may go
But a mothers love will only grow

I love my mum, she is the best,
Her love I do not need to test,
I’ll always be right by her side,
With a heart that is full of love and pride

Entry 5:

She’s been there for me when no-one else has, she believes in me and everything I do, I love her because she is my rock, and my best friend. She is permanently smiling, even when when times are at their worst, she still manages to find a way to make everything seem okay. She’s the sunshine in my life, without her I would be lost. She’s done so much for me, I just wish I could find a way to show her how much she’s appreciated by everyone who knows her, me especially.

She really is the light in my life, she’s amazing in every way, from the way she laughs from the warm hugs that she gives me when I need her to comfort me. She is always full of fun, and there is no limit to the joy she brings to so many peoples lives. There is no way that I could ever explain just how much I love her, she’s far too amazing for words. There’s only one thing I can say, and that’s that I love her for simply being her.

Entry 6

Chorus: Hale and hearty, hale and hearty, Hale and hearty, she’s survived. Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday! Going strong at 95!

Long ago, in 1915

On a January morn…..

It was war time, quite a poor time

For a baby to be born.

Life is hard, if you are scarred

And her cleft lip made folks stare,

But she was teased, more by her peers

For her brilliant ginger hair.

Teaching French, and teaching football

In a boys’ school was very hard,

They learned their verbs: she learned swear-words

And to flash the yellow card.

Not a stranger, to any danger

In the war, she took a stance,

Through the air raids, with her nerves frayed

She drove her ambulance.

Then in peace time, glad release time

Wedding bells and a wedding band,

No more doom-time; a baby-boom time

To re-populate the land.

Sorely tried, when Arnold died

She shed many a bitter tear,

But found a smile, for every grandchild,

With a new one born each year.

Entry 7:

She is loving and kind.
Eases the worries from my troubled mind.
Always available and forgiving.
There for me, so generous and giving.

Stocks my fridge when I can’t shop
Collects things when I can’t stop.
Her strength hides her vulnerable side.
I’m her daughter, her friend, and sometimes her guide.

Believe me it’s not all sweetness and light.
Being so close we can get in a fight.
But just as quickly as the feathers fly,
We’re back on track tears wiped from our eye.

She’s taught me all she knows and some.
But mostly I’ve taught her how to have fun.
I’d like to tell her how much she’s appreciated
Is there an award for best Mum, so she can be nominated?

Because without my Mum around I must admit,
Would be like a tear in my life without a sewing kit.

Entry 8:

My Ordinary Mum!
She’s cared for and supported me Protected me from harm
Praised me when I’m feeling blue When stressed she’s made me calm

She needs to know I’m happy That everything’s OK
It’s nice to know she’s always there To help me on my way

Pride has always filled her eyes And never has it waned
From pictures that adorned the fridge To, the Uni place I gained

She’s always there to comfort me Via webcam or the phone
A soothing voice to reassure When feeling far from home

A wicked sense of humour Young in heart and style
Shopping for the latest trends She can walk for miles and miles

If ever I’m in trouble And I need a helping hand
I know I can depend upon Her doing what she can

She deserves the very best in life Of that there is no doubt
Making sure we get the best She often goes without

She works hard making money She’s always paid her way
Mortgage, bills and groceries This mum deserves her day.

She’s not a super model, Or a Hollywood actress mum
She’s not a hero fighting crime but, to me she’s Number One!

Entry 9:

From toddler tantrums to childhood tears,
Through adolescence and teenage years,
Spots, braces, scraps and scraped knees,
Make-up, fashion, the birds and the bees,

Best mates, first dates, squabbles with friends,
Jealousies, rivalries, making amends,
Getting a tattoo, (dad went berserk!),
Exams, uni, starting work,

From silly little crushes to meeting ‘the one’,
To getting married and the birth of my son,
No matter what, my mum’s been there,
To guide me, protect me, to listen, to care,

She loves and supports me, like no other,
I’m lucky to have such a wonderful Mother!

Entry 10:

I am great at making chips,
Mending plugs and fixing zips.
I know how to hula-hoop,
I make fantastic mushroom soup.

I can salsa like a good ‘un
You should taste my Yorkshire pudd’n.
I know how to iron jeans,
I can grow my own broad beans.

I can draw with great precision,
I’m a whiz a long division.
I know how to manage bills
You should see my knitting skills!

I’m the one you can rely on,
I’m a shoulder which to cry on.
I know how to care and share,
I know what is fair and square.

Though proud of everything I’ve done
I owe it to my lovely mum.
Our special bond will never go,
She taught me everything I know.

Entry 11:

We love our Mum because…
Penny is the name of our Mum
We think she’s pretty cool.
She’s quite laid back and smiles a lot,
But she’s strict too – we know the rules!

She’s forever munching on salads,
And she likes to keep fit at the gym.
Some would say she’s a bit of a health freak,
But without Mum our lives would be dim.

She always there when we need her,
Support for exams or when we are down.
She never criticises, she just gives advice,
With Mum about, we never frown.

She sometimes gets nervy when we drive,
Which can make us feel a little mad.
But we know she’s only concerned about us,
And that can’t really be bad!

We hope Mum knows how much we love her,
We only really tell her on Mothers’ Day.
But we’ll make sure she knows we fully appreciate her,
And that we love her in every possible way.

Entry 12:

I love her because she is always there
With loving arms of comfort when life’s just not fair
She’s my best friend and mum rolled into one
Second to none and my number one

Putting others before herself, catering to every demand
A shoulder to cry on, always ready to understand
She kisses my wounds better when I’m in pain
Forever at my side she keeps me sane

Words of comfort when I’m feeling sad
She can even make me giggle when I get mad
Even in the hard times when she’s feeling down and blue
She carries on regardless, keeps smiling through

No one compares, no better mum you’ll find,
She’s warm hearted, generous, gentle and kind,
For everything you are for just being you
Without your love in my life what would I do?

I love you more than anyone
And I’m proud to have and to call you Mum!
